Picture My Life Skylark Program - Card Project

I love the Skylark Picture My Life Scrapbooking Program.  I must be honest...I am a traditional scrapbooker to the core!  I have yet to use this program to make a pocket based scrapbook layout.  I do see the fun and the appeal of a quick layout that you get with the program, but I just love the creative aspect that comes with traditional scrapbooking.

With that being said, I do love this program and the idea of using the cards on other projects.  Today, I will share a 4 x 5.25 inch card that features a card from the Skylark Picture My Life Scrapbooking Program.

 

Here is a close up picture that gives a great peek at the beauty of the dry embossing and the dragon fly from the Skylark WOTG stamp set that I stamped using lagoon ink and then fussy cut.  While I wouldn't enjoy doing tedious fuzzy cutting very often, even a Cricut loving girl like me can find it occasionally a bit relaxing and rewarding!  

With a few simple additions, this card quickly and easily came together.

Pathfinding WOTG - Secondary Layout

Today I am sharing the second two page layout from the Pathfinding Workshop on the Go.  This is my final product....

I followed the instructional guide for the most part, but I did take liberties with the size of my photos.  Since I personally prefer a lot of photos, I rarely use a large photo, like the one featured on the right hand page of the original artwork, and I decided to replace it with the photo sizes you see above.   This simple change gave me two additional photos on my layout and now the focal photo will be a standard 4x6 instead of the proposed 6x6.

This photo modification meant I needed to move my title to the Left hand page.  To maintain a nice balance on the two pages, I ended up moving  both of the 2x2 inch photos to the Right hand page, as well as one of my embellishment clusters.  Since I haven't yet decided on which photos to add, I can't made a decision on my journalling, but it will be simple enough to add at a later date.

Overall, I was very happy with this layout, it maintain the feel of the original, but is must more suited to photo sizes that work best for me. Click HERE if you'd like to purchase this great kit.

Pathfinding WOTG - Primary Layout

I certainly love the CTMH Workshops on the Go Kits.  When you look at the price, it is like buying the paper, stamp and instruction guide and getting two packages of embellishments for a couple of dollars.  Another added benefit is that once you complete the four scrapbook pages (two 2 page layouts), you have plenty of paper, embellishments and, of course, the wonderful stamp set, to complete additional projects.  It is really a great deal.  That being said, I want to share with you the primary layout in the Pathrfinding WOTG Kit.

Since I followed the kit instructions to make this layout, I will summarize the slight modifications that I made.  First, I wasn't too fond of the Colonial White frame for the focal photo on the Left Hand Page, so I pulled out a sheet of Goldrush cardstock (this wasn't included in the WOTG kit)  and then backed the maple leaf cutout with Chocolate cardstock, instead of the Goldrush cardstock that was instructed in the guide. Balloon Ride - Our Own Little World

A boat ride down the river on a beautiful Florida day - it is hard to find a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon.  But, in my opinion, getting to scrapbook about the day certainly adds to the experience!

I chose to use Balloon Ride Workshop on the Go for this layout and the color palette worked beautifully.  I followed the instructions for the additional layout, but of course I had to make some minor modifications.  However, the overall feel of the layout wasn't lost and, as in the case of most of my pages, I was quite please with the result.

Ivy Lane - This is so Lovely

On the somewhat rare occasion that I receive flowers from my husband, I do like to scrapbook them.  It is not that he doesn't make an effort to make Valentine's Day special, it is more that we both feel there are better ways to express love than flowers.  But I do still very much enjoy receiving them and never knowing when I may receive them, makes it even more special.  I also very rarely dedicate an entire scrapbook page to one picture, but I am capable of doing it, even though it doesn't come naturally :-)

Ivy Lane - Happy Valentine's

When I look at the Ivy Lane paper pack, I immediately think of love, love, love.  Maybe it is the beautiful flower B&T paper that triggers these thoughts, but no matter, it was my choice for this layout featuring two of my daughters on Valentine's Day.

These are the basics that were used to complete this page:

• Happy Valentine My Acrylics Stamp set, S1301 (previous Stamp of the Month)

I stamp the Pure, Simple, Wonderful You image and the Happy Valentine's Day image using Hollyhock ink onto Bamboo cardstock and then just carefully cut the images out using my Non-Stick Micro-tip Scissors. Yes, I do actually have layouts that do not include Cricut cuts - but they are rare :-)  Here is a close up of some of the embellishments...

Skylark WOTG - Timeless Beauty

When I sat down to make the second layout in the Skylark WOTG, I knew that I wanted to scrapbook pictures from my daughter's birthday.  However, I knew that the pictures featured their fair share of pink and pink was nowhere to be found in the Skylark papers.  I also knew that it would accommodate pink quite well, so my solution was to randomly stamp the dragonfly image using Cotton Candy Ink onto the B&T paper and use some Cotton Candy cardstock.  I was very pleased with the results.

I did change some of the photo sizes and I needed a larger portion of my layout to hold my journaling.  Overall, I mostly followed the WOTG instructions, but tweaked things here and there to suit my pictures and my taste.  Here are some close up photos of some details on each of the layouts...

Skylark WOTG Primary Layout

Well, I just can't say it enough - I love this paper pack!  It is just so beautiful and the Skylark WOTG was so much fun to work with.  Of course, I almost always tweak the layout to make it my own, but that is one of the things that make the WOTG so great.  The basics are done, you just follow the instructions and go off-road when the mood suits you.

I won't go into detail to describe all of the elements that follow the WOTG instructions, but I will describe a couple of the changes that I implemented.  First of all, I felt that the "Live in the Moment" title was better suited to this particular subject matter - my daughter's piano recital.  But, given the size of this stamp, it fit more readily on the right hand page.  So that is why I ended up replacing the title on the left page with an additional picture.  This was a simple alteration that didn't change the overall feel of the layout, but did work better with the photos that I had and the title that I wanted.

Another change that I incorporated was the journaling box.  While I did like the one on the original layout, I wanted more color on my page and I liked the idea of using a tag.  I decided on the tag from page 50 of the CTMH Artbooking Cricut cartridge, which I cut at 4 inches.  I then used MS Word to print my journaling, embellished it with a small segment of the twist tie and then adhered it to my page.

I decided to include a close up of the design detail that showcases a flower from the Skylark Assortment and a couple of the Slate Striped Twist Ties.  The flower is an adhesive backed resin piece that adds texture, depth and beauty to the layout.  Such a simple, but powerful detail that I felt it deserved a moment in the spotlight...

Buzz and Bumble, The Fun Continues

The lovely Buzz and Bumble paper has certainly been one of my favorite from the Spring/Summer 2013 Idea Book.  I will most likely end up using every scrap of paper from that paper pack - because I just love it so much!

Here are two more layouts that I created using papers from this pack.

Buzz and Bumble, IB Diploma

On my IB Diploma layout, I used cuts from the Artiste Cricut Cartridge and stamps from the Avonlea WOTG.  I made the cuts using Sunset cardstock and them stamped the images using Cocoa ink.  My title was made using the Canvas Alphabet on which I stamped using Sunset ink and the 2 1/4 inch flower from Hooray Bouquet (D1491) as a background and texture stamp.  I love the look of this technique.

Buzz and Bumble, Remember

My Remember layout was made exclusively from B&T papers and cardstock, with the exception of the title.  The title was from the Avonlea Complements Canvas Shapes and was stamped using Sunset ink and Universal Backgrounds (D1477).  A few sparkles from the Brown and Tan Assortment (Z1753) finished this layout.  

Second Buzz and Bumble WOTG Layout

I created this layout for my youngest daughter's school's annual spring fling.  I know the original layout featured 3 pictures, but I am a picture lover and I always have a difficult time narrowing down my choice of what pictures to include in each layout.  For me to get the selection down to under 10 is usually quite remarkable, but to limit it to only 3 - then I most likely only have 3 pictures of that event :-)

The most obvious modification for my layout was that I opted to use two 4x6 photos instead of the one 8x10 that was featured in the WOTG.  I decided with this change in photo size, it would be best if I expanded the vertical height of my sunset colored B&T pattern paper.  Also, the sheer length of my title prevented me from trimming a pennant edge on the end of my title block.

 My right hand page needed to accommodate four photos (two portrait 2x3's and 2 square 3x3'3) and again I needed to expand the vertical height of my sunset colored B&T pattern paper.  I still need to add my journalling, but for all practical purposes, this layout is complete.

I will be posting additional projects that were completed using the paper included in this WOTG - it is amazing how much that can be completed with the supplies that are included in each WOTG.  More about that in the near future...

Buzz and Bumble WOTG

I recently hosted a Buzz and Bumble Workshop on the Go.  This WOTG is one of my favorites...the pattern paper is so beautiful and the detail on the stamp set is simply amazing.  The finished layouts are very impressive - and I must say, the pictures simply do not do these layouts justice.  I am sad to say that this WOTG will retire at the end of this month, so if you are interested in adding it to your collection, please do so before midnight on 31 August 2013.

When I completed my layouts, I tweaked them just a bit to accommodate my pictures, but I maintained most of the original design and I was so pleased with the results  I am sharing the primary layout today and will post the second layout in the near future.

On the Left Page, I strayed from the original design by altering the size of my focal photo, and chose to use some of the space allocated for a 5x7 photo for my journalling.  I also utilized the space behind the 9"x6" Cocoa colored B&T patterned paper to create a hidden pocket in which I tucked away a copy of the program for my daughter's Junior Piano Recital (the two protruding pieces of hemp are the pulls to retrieve the program.)

On the right hand page, I needed to accommodate 6 landscape photos.  This modification was very easy and the only adjustment to the original design was that I moved the placement of the stamped sentiment "Wonderful, Beautiful Day" and I decided to use the entire sentiment, not just a portion of it, as was done in the original layout.

It is useful to note that this WOTG utilized two wonderful techniques...Masking (note the use of Sunset ink for the word "Beautiful" and the use of Cocoa ink for the remainder of the stamped sentiment) and the use of Blending Pens (notice the color of the word "Seeds" on the stamped image of the seed packet.)  Blending Pens were used to sprinkle additional pops of color throughout the layout, and this technique offers a quick and inexpensive way to add color exactly where you want it.  Both of these techniques are very easy and fun and the results look quite impressive.

Avonlea WOTG Scrapbooking Kit 2nd Layout

The layout was a bit simpler than the first so it went together faster.  I stayed true to the design with two exceptions...1) I altered both of the 5x7 pictures and the 4x7 picture to include two pictures each.  This gave me room for 7 pictures instead of just 4.  Since the size of the prints remained the same no additional space adjustments were needed; and 2)  I  used the Color-Ready Canvas Alphabet for my title and colored it with Chocolate Ink instead of stamping the title as suggested in the instructions.

Avonlea WOTG Scrapbooking Kit Layout

I really loved this layout and wanted to follow the design as presented in the instructional guide - minimizing the modifications.  However, my pictures didn't lend themselves to square cropping, so I replaced the small 2x2 pictures with two 3x4 portraits on the left hand page and four 2x3 landscape images on the right hand page.  This replacement consumed the equivalent of a 4x6 image on each page which left me with less "white" space on the lower half of each page.  So I ended up adjusting the size of my title, accordingly.

I also don't have the ability to print on a 12x12 page, so I used a 4x6 journalling box because I had quite a bit of journalling.  I inked the edges of this box and was pleased with the results.

This was my first experience using Parlor Velvet Rub-Ons...and I was impressed.  They were just as easy to use as a regular rub-on but the velvet added nice texture and sophistication to my layout. I also loved the detail that inking the edges added and I also thought it was a fun technique to incorporate.

Since I don't have an Alphabet stamp set that is large enough to be used for my title I used my Cuttlebug and an alphabet die cut set that I have had for many years to cut my title from two of the Avonlea papers.  This was my very first layout made with a WOTG kit and I not only loved the results, I loved the process.
